Project overview
Rob Bryant is a guitarist, songwriter and producer whose work spans both his own releases and collaborations with other artists.
After studying at Musicians Institute and ACM, he developed a broader interest in production and engineering, leading to the creation of The Leaf Studio as a dedicated environment for writing and recording.
-
The project involved converting a large double garage with adjoining office into a dedicated home recording studio. The brief required a spacious live room for full band recording and a control room centred on a Neve BCM10 console with Ex Machina Soundworks Pulsa MKII monitors. A separate breakout space with kitchenette, bathroom and storage kept the facility functionally independent from the family home.
Close proximity to a main road and a light aircraft flight path shaped the acoustic strategy. External noise levels demanded a robust isolation approach, while the existing roof structure proved structurally unsound and restricted the available headroom in the studio. This constraint created the opportunity for one of the project’s defining features: a vaulted live room ceiling offering significant internal volume, improved acoustic response and a clear architectural presence. Baseline sound isolation tests informed refinement of the overall build up.
A new extension was constructed to house breakout and welfare facilities, with the architecture integrated into the original structure to maintain a coherent flow and practical working layout.

The vaulted live room ceiling provides generous internal volume, an enhanced acoustic response and a clear visual presence within the space. Set in a rural location, the studio benefits from its surroundings as an inspiring environment for writing sessions, long form production work and full band recording.
Daylight and outward views were introduced without compromising isolation, using steel framed acoustic windows and doors supplied by Future Fire Solutions. These systems maintain the required performance against external noise while preserving a visual connection to the landscape. The interior palette draws subtle cues from the environment, pairing natural tones with a clean, modern finish. The result was a unified isolation strategy where walls, floors, ceilings, junctions and penetrations aligned to meet the required performance targets.
Delivery and technical integration
The project was delivered through close coordination with Paul Maggs Architect and TLB Services on the extension and vaulted roof, ensuring structural performance and acoustic requirements were aligned from the outset. A discreet HVAC system was designed and installed across the live room, control room and breakout areas. Two ducted units and a wall mounted unit serve different zones, with tight ceiling voids making duct routing and access particularly challenging.
Airflow modelling supported even coverage in the high ceiling spaces, with supply and return positions developed for comfort and noise control. Acoustic ducting and vibration isolation were specified throughout to support quiet operation, stable temperature control and balanced airflow.
We installed bespoke acoustic timber doors with high performance seals to the control room and live room. Future Fire Solutions supplied and installed the specialist external doors and windows, and SX Pro and Studiocare provided the professional audio equipment, cabling and patchbays.
The outcome
The Leaf Studio is a calm, technically capable recording space. The live room delivers controlled, predictable acoustics for drums and ensemble recording, while the control room provides accurate monitoring for detailed production work. The layout and atmosphere make the studio a reliable, comfortable environment for Rob and visiting musicians.
“Working with Mark, Tim and everyone affiliated with the Recording Rooms team was fantastic. From the very beginning they truly understood what I had wanted for my space both sonically and visually, working diligently to present ideas or ask questions in a way that was never overwhelming.
As a result of their brilliant work throughout both the planning phase and the building phase, I treasure every day spent working in the studio that sounds as incredible as it looks.”
