About us
Recording Rooms is a UK-based specialist studio design and build company delivering complete studio projects for labels, broadcasters, media companies and private clients.
Our work brings together acoustic design, structural coordination, building services, technical infrastructure and interior finishes. These elements are integrated and delivered as a single coordinated process, allowing studios to be developed with clarity from early feasibility through to construction and commissioning.
Projects range from recording studios and broadcast facilities to podcast studios and other professional production environments. Each space is designed to combine acoustic performance, reliable technical infrastructure and practical construction methods that support modern production workflows.
Our approach combines technical performance, practical construction knowledge and an understanding of how creative spaces are used day to day.
Our vision
Recording Rooms believes studios should support creative work first and foremost. These spaces are not simply construction projects. They are environments where music, broadcast and media content are created every day.
Studios deliver the best outcomes when they feel like creative hubs rather than strict technical environments. Our aim is to create relaxed, comfortable and inspiring spaces that still provide the technical infrastructure required for modern production.
Technical performance leads the design, with interior intent developed alongside it. The result is spaces where artists, engineers and broadcasters can work confidently, supported by environments designed for durability, maintainability and adaptability as technology evolves.
Our values
-
We prioritise honest advice at the earliest stages of a project, helping clients understand feasibility, budgets and practical constraints. Careful attention to detail in acoustic isolation, building services and technical infrastructure underpins every project.
-
Studio projects sit at the intersection of acoustics, construction, building services and technology. Coordinating these disciplines reduces risk and helps ensure the different systems work together effectively.
-
Our projects rely on long-standing relationships with specialist designers, engineers and consultants. Open communication with clients and project teams is central to how we work.
-
Studio projects often involve complex technical requirements. A considered approach to planning, decision making and delivery helps maintain clarity and confidence throughout the process.
“Studios deliver the best outcomes when they feel like creative hubs rather than strict technical environments”.
Recording Rooms - Vision
Our mission
Recording Rooms delivers complete studio design and build projects, from early feasibility and design coordination through to construction, technical installation and commissioning.
By providing a single coordinated approach, we simplify complex projects and maintain clear communication throughout the process. This allows clients to focus on the creative purpose of the space while we manage the technical and construction delivery.
Our goal is always the same: to create reliable studio environments that support recording, broadcast and content production for many years to come.
A team connected to the work
Recording Rooms brings together specialists in acoustics, studio design, construction and technical systems. Many of the people involved in our projects also come from backgrounds within music, broadcast and media production.
This connection to the industries our clients work in shapes how we approach every project. The spaces we build are not abstract technical exercises but working environments for artists, engineers, producers and broadcasters. Understanding how these spaces are used day to day informs many of the decisions made during design and construction.
Across the team there is a shared interest in the technologies, techniques and workflows that underpin modern production. We continue to refine our methods, develop new approaches and build on the experience gained from each project.
Led by Mark Russell
Recording Rooms is led by Mark Russell, whose involvement in studio environments and studio design and build projects spans more than twenty five years.
His first studio project was undertaken in 1998 for M&S Productions and Blockster, during a period when Blockster had the UK number one single You Should Be Dancing and M&S Productions released the global club record Salsoul Nugget. In 2006 he co-founded a studio design and build company that went on to become one of the leading businesses in the sector. Recording Rooms was established in 2017, continuing this work with a focus on integrated studio design, construction and technical delivery.
Alongside his work in studio development, Mark has spent much of his life involved in music and DJ culture. His background includes producing music, DJing, collecting records and curating events across genres including soul, jazz, funk, house and drum and bass, supported by an extensive vinyl collection.
During the 1990s he performed alongside DJs including Pete Tong, LTJ Bukem, Paul Oakenfold, David Morales, Roger Sanchez and Todd Terry, appearing at clubs such as Ministry of Sound, The End and Turnmills. He has also curated and performed at events including Café Mambo, Pete Tong presents Ibiza Classics and Ministry of Sound Classical.
Through his studio work he has delivered projects for artists including Rod Temperton, Muse, Chase & Status, Stormzy and Dave, and has undertaken work involving studios such as Abbey Road, Olympic, RAK, Angel and AIR.
This background informs the way Recording Rooms approaches its projects. Every studio is treated with the same level of care and attention that Mark would expect if it were his own space.
Clients rely on Recording Rooms to take responsibility for complex projects, and once engaged the team works closely with clients, consultants and specialist partners to deliver the agreed outcome and support the long term success of the space.
How we work
Studio projects often involve multiple disciplines, including acoustic design, structural coordination, building services, technical infrastructure and specialist construction.
Recording Rooms brings these elements together through a single coordinated process. Depending on the project, we work either as the lead studio design and build contractor or as a specialist studio contractor working alongside architects, engineers and main contractors.
This approach allows technical decisions made during design to be carried through effectively during construction and commissioning, reducing risk and supporting the long-term performance of the space.
Examples of our work can be found in the Case Studies section of this site, which includes recording studios, broadcast facilities and specialist production environments delivered for labels, broadcasters and independent clients.
